Furlough Information

September 29, 2021
Dear Parents,
As a reminder SFEI is continuing to offer a Financial Hardship plan to those affected during the government furlough.
Affected families are able to apply for financial relief with the following terms:
-
If your child attends the center during furlough, you will be charged for the days your child attends after the first pay date after the furlough ends.
-
If the government grants backpay, regardless of whether your child attends or not during the furlough, you will be charged the full tuition amount after backpay has been received. This will allow SFEI to be fair to our teachers and staff and allow them to be paid for this time as well. This also follows a requirement in our handbook that tuition breaks for vacation time are not allowed.
-
If the government does not grant backpay, you will not be charged tuition for any days your child does not attend during the furloughed time.
Financial Hardship application forms are attached and are available at the Childcare Center front desk.
We hope that this will relieve some of the stress of this difficult time. Thank you for your understanding and assistance in this matter.

Dear Parents and Members,
As you are no doubt aware, there is the potential for the government shutdown to impact NASA. Barring direction to the contrary from JSC and assuming that the Center itself remains open, SFEI’s plan is to keep the JSC Childcare Center open to all enrollees during a furlough period. Staffing may be reduced based on the number of children in attendance in an effort to reduce losses in revenue to the corporation. SFEI strives to be responsive to the needs of our community, and as such, we will offer a financial hardship plan to those affected in the event of a government furlough. Affected families will be able to apply for financial relief with the following terms:
1. If your child attends the center during furlough, you will be charged for the days your child attended after the first pay date following the end of the furlough.
2. If the government grants back pay, you will be charged the full tuition amount after back pay has been received, regardless of whether your child attended or not during the furlough. This will allow SFEI to be fair to our teachers and staff and allow them to be paid for this time as well.
3. If the government does not grant back pay, you will not be charged tuition for any days your child does not attend during the furlough.
We hope that this policy will relieve some of the stress of this potentially difficult time. Financial Hardship application forms will be available at the Childcare Center and linked above. If you have any questions about this policy, please discuss them with Karen or the Board. If you have special circumstances not addressed by this policy, please email sfei.board@gmail.com, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs if possible.
Hopefully, we will not need to use this contingency plan, but we need to be ready in the event we are faced with this unfortunate situation.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance in this matter.
